General info:
In May 1957, Tennessee Central took delivery of 10 70-ton covered hoppers from Greenville Steel Car Company --
Nos. 6000-6009.
As delivered, they rode on Barber S-2 trucks.
The slope sheets, center sill and trucks were painted black.
The journal lids were painted yellow to indicate internal roller bearings.
Assignments varied, as these were definitely not captive to TC rails.
Soda ash bound for the Ford Glass plant in Nashville was one assignment.
In October 1967, some were assigned to Central Soya
Co. on the IC in Memphis, for feed loading to Nashville via IC RR
Memphis, TN to Hopkinsville, KY (IC RR connection with TC).
As of April 1968, they were assigned as follows:
3 cars - assigned to Purina Mills in Nashville for loading to
Carthage and Cookeville.
5 cars - assigned to Southern States Lime in Crab Orchard for agricultural
limestone loading to various on-line and off-line destinations.
2 cars - assigned to cement loading in Nashville for loading to
various on-line and off-line destinations.
At bankruptcy in 1968, these were acquired by L&N and renumbered to 37115-37124.
